Gynostemma pentaphyllum (Jiaogulan)

This is an herbaceous vine indigenous to the southern part of China, South Korea and Japan. It is called the ?immortality herb? because it helps in strengthening the body?s natural resistance to stress, diseases and environmental pollutants.

Jiaogulan has been used by generations of people residing in the mountain regions of Southern China as an energizing agent. It is taken for general health and is recognized as a rejuvenating elixir.

In a village of Guizhou province, where the people drink jiaogulan tea instead of green tea, many people live more than 100 years of age.

Jiaogulan contains a large quantity of saponin, also known as the adaptogen called gypenosides. The molecular structure and properties of gypenosides is very similar to the ginsenoside found in ginseng and help the body to resist the effects of stress.

There are four times as many saponins in jiaogulan as there is found in ginseng. Some of these saponins are identical to the ginsenoside in ginseng and some of them turn into ginsenoside when taken into the body. This results is a greater quantity of saponins than in ginseng, which has an more powerful regulatory effect on several of our bodily systems, like blood pressure, the reproductive system, the digestive system, mental functioning and many others.

Jiaogulan is an antioxidant and adaptogenic herb that has 82 separate saponins and compared to ginseng which has only 24 saponins, is a more effective herb.

Jiaogulan has many properties
